Daystar Community Programs


DayStar Community Program responds to the needs of people from all faiths and income levels residing in Alexander and Pulaski counties in Southern Illinois. DayStar provides services such as Madeline’s Mart, Food Pantry, The Kitchen Table, Outreach Program, and other special programs.

Madeline’s Mart: Madeline’s Mart is named after Sister Madeline, DayStar’s Founder. Clothing and household items are provided by Madeline’s Mart to families in need. Items are also sold at a nominal price for families in need. Madeline’s Mart is open MTTHF.

Food Pantry: The Food Pantry provides supplements for families or individuals who are in need of food. The pantry is open MTTHF.

The Kitchen Table: The Kitchen Table is a soup kitchen that supplements families in need of food. The soup kitchen is open TWTHF from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Outreach Program: The Outreach Program provides on-going, short-term help to persons in need. Assistance may include financial help, assistance with rent, utilities, medicines, and transportation; advocacy and counseling where applicable.

Special Programs: Thanksgiving Day meals are delivered to seniors and handicapped individuals who have no family or no place to spend the holiday. The Christmas Program is designed for children and families who are less fortunate. DayStar provides food baskets, toys, gift certificates when available, and smiles for children and families at Christmas.
